German artist Sarah Schönfeld drips solutions of various "light" drugs onto exposed film, producing images that show the "individuality" of each drug in the project "All You Can Feel".
A photographic series, which visually interprets the physiological and psychological imbalance that the human body undergoes under the influence of drugs, is currently exhibited at the Feldbuschwiesner Gallery in Berlin.
Sarah Schenfield, author of works, specializes in film and photography. However, for this project, Sarah removed the main thing that is traditionally considered the minimum condition for a photographer's work - a camera.
Working directly with film, she adds to the artistic process that element of unpredictability that is inherent in chemical experimentation. In this sense, her workshop becomes a chemical laboratory, where she sprinkles substances such as LSD, cocaine or caffeine onto the film, which trigger a chemical reaction on the surface of the light-sensitive coating.
Sarah has spent several years working in the famous nightclubs in Berlin, so she knows firsthand about the various effects of recreational drugs. The idea for the "All You Can Feel" series was born from her observations of the hedonistic entertainment of drug-intoxicated ravers. Another prerequisite was the mental illness of Sarah's father, due to which he is constantly under the influence of psychotropic drugs. The photographer asks the question: "To what extent do these substances affect the personality, individuality, psyche?"
The effect of some of these substances on a person can be individual and unpredictable, and the result of a chemical reaction manifests itself in intricate shapes, textures and colors that are unique to each drug.
