CTRLZAK Studio presented a collection of ceramic products at Milan Design Week 2010, in which the authors combined Chinese and European traditions in this area. The unique art collection CeramiX is literally a fusion of West and East in one plate.
“China has a long tradition in the production of ceramics and especially porcelain, and Europe has tried for centuries to copy this oriental experience. Nowadays, the world is flooded with Chinese products, which to some extent are counterfeit European goods. CeramiX is a kind of reflection of the historical irony in the field of ceramics production”, - say the authors of the project.
At the beginning of the project, there was a study of traditional techniques, methods and ways of development of Chinese and European ceramics, after which the CTRLZAK team highlighted the key elements inherent in each of the cultures. Subsequently, the project was divided into two phases. The essence of the first was to search for original ceramics of the East and West, which would contain the key elements identified during the research. The objects were then cut in half, and the halves belonging to different cultures were joined together. The result of this stage of work is called the art collection. In addition, there is also the CeramiX designer collection, which is a series of modern ceramic products created by the CTRLZAK team (photo below).
CTRLZAK Art & Design Studio is a multidisciplinary company founded by Thanos Zakopoulos (Greece) and Katia Meneghini (Italy). The studio operates internationally in the field of contemporary art and design, and its activities include both the design of products and premises, as well as the implementation of specific art projects and the creation of installations.
