From the beginning of April, huge mysterious transparent balls began to appear here and there in New York, thus surprising a considerable number of passers-by. A modern urban installation by Berlin architects from the Raumlabor company brought a touch of unusualness and variety to the boring city life of the Big Apple.
Berlin-based creative team Raumlabor started modern architectural and urban art back in 1999. Divided into groups, creative architects and sculptors explore different strategies and ways to improve the city. Raumlabor carry out architectural projects, create urban installations, carry out diverse studies of an interactive environment. Raumlabor are masters of creating interesting architectural projects, they are magicians of urban representations who, with a wave of their hand, give a certain place completely different functions: they turn a gallery into a laboratory, a square into a room for discussion of scientific treatises.
Raumlabor's latest project, Spacebuster, is a huge, portable inflatable pavilion. It was first introduced to the American public in early April, and has since traveled throughout New York City, serving all the important events in that city. The pavilion consists of an inflatable bubble-like dome that appears almost out of nowhere. And in the same mysterious way later disappears. The ball gradually grows and merges organically with the environment, whether in a field, or in a forest, or in the city center. To create the "Spacebuster", a durable special translucent plastic was used. Various events are held under the roof of the pavilion - dance parties, lectures, dinner parties, buffets. It is interesting that completely random passers-by can observe everything that happens.
