Big cities such as Amsterdam, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Berlin, New York and Los Angeles are beautiful, proud and majestic. But there is one significant but in this greatness: the inhabitants of megalopolises are deprived of the opportunity to contemplate the starry sky in all its glory. The stars are replaced by the lights of shop windows and skyscrapers, advertisements and attractions, car headlights and floodlights over stadiums. Urban romance - a date not under a starry sky, but under city lanterns. This romance is photographed by a 25-year-old photographer Jacob Wagner … A series of his photographs is called Urban zoom, and just dedicated to the lights of big cities. Using long exposure, Jacob photographs evening and night landscapes on the streets of the largest cities in Europe, Asia and America, including his native Dusseldorf, the "Big Apple" in the United States, Paris in France, Tokyo in Japan and others.
After taking several shots at different shutter speeds and from different distances, the author proceeds to compose the shots in Photoshop in order to take a single, but perfect shot. This is how you get fantastic photos with special light effects. A real fireworks display of lights, or a romantic glow of lights, depending on what exactly the camera captured.
Jacob Wagner calls his photographs "calling cards" of big cities. Looking at these pictures, you can, if not find out, then guess about the "character" of this or that city, knowing its main attractions. And lovers of night walks will easily recognize the most popular places rich in shining lights, whether it be an advertisement, a searchlight, a city lamp, or a flock of passing cars.
