In San Francisco, at the intersection of 16th Ave. and Moraga, there is a unique art project, an artistically designed staircase, which is called the longest such structure. The project is called Tiled stepsand despite the fact that it is almost 6 years old, residents and visitors of San Francisco still take walks to this place to admire and take pictures with the development of a creative tandem with a ceramic designer Colette crutcher and mosaic artist Aileen barr … The Tiled Steps mosaic staircase has 163 steps, decorated with 2,000 handcrafted ceramic tiles, and the tiles are decorated with 75,000 pieces of colorful mosaic, glass and mirrors that make up a huge colorful panel. A mosaic picture shows us the life of the underwater and surface world, the inhabitants of the seas and rivers, forests and deserts, the feathered inhabitants of the planet, flowers, trees and grasses, as well as celestial bodies, stars and constellations of our galaxy.
This creative project was created over two and a half years, the local government attracted 300 sponsors to work, whose names are woven into the mosaic panel as gratitude for the help and work done together. The value of the art project and artistic contribution to the development of the city was appreciated by merit, assigning a lot of titles to the unusual decorative staircase Tiled Steps, presenting the authors with a lot of awards, including a special prize and a certificate of honor of the city of San Francisco.
No city event, concert, or wedding is complete without a visit to 16th Ave. and Moraga.
