A man with many faces is the name of the artist James Kuhn, who creates incredible and sometimes strange masks. The eccentric artist calls his creations "self-portraits" because he uses his own face as a canvas to recreate works of art.
The 46-year-old artist is halfway through a project that aims to create new face designs for every day of the year. His 365 drawings are cartoon characters, fairytale characters, as well as drawings that relate to the author's preferred food.
James Kuhn reincarnates as King Kong monster Hannibal Lector, zebra, leopard. But the most shocking, of course, are the food-themed drawings, transforming his face into a giant box of popcorn, cheeseburger, pineapple, frozen convenience food packaging, or even a kebab.
Living in Michigan, USA, James draws inspiration from everywhere, including children's games and love of drawing on everything that is possible, even on his own body. The author admits that he was an artist all his life, starting with children's drawings on oatmeal. “Art doesn't have to be a product,” says James. “This is a gift that grows on love. Art can be silly, funny, influential and sacred."
His work is presented in galleries for public viewing, but the author believes that selling his works of art should not be a motivation that encourages us to be creative.
