It's not hard to imagine that a subway station can turn into a small market or even a shopping center. Well, who has not seen that in the subway they sell flowers, tights and other trifles? Also, no one will be surprised by the subway walls painted with intricate graffiti. But turning the metro into a sculptural gallery is something new and extremely curious. This is what a New York sculptor did Tom Otternessand now his work adorns the 14th Street - Eighth Avenue subway station, delighting locals and surprising visitors every day. These sculptures are part of an unusual gallery called " Life underground", or" Underground life. "More than a hundred small, and often even tiny people, cast in bronze, have been decorating the subway in Manhattan for 8 years, making" 14th Street - Eighth Avenue "one of the most popular stations in the city.

Cartoon kids are scattered here and there throughout the station: on handrails, poles, benches, walls and even ceilings. Some of them are petty hooligans, some are busy with work, others are mischievous or have a rest, and still others watch everything that happens around. Tom Otterness portrayed many of his sculptural men in poses and situations that are perfectly familiar to any person who often travels on the subway. So, there are pickpockets hugging with wallets and bags of coins, and malicious violators of control caught by a policeman at the crime scene, and janitors sweeping floors, and ordinary people depicted as animals, such as a woman horse, for example, and also elephants or crocodiles.
