The name of the Italian actress Lucia Bose is on a par with the names of Anna Magnani, Sophia Loren and Gina Lollobrigida. In 1947 she became the first beauty in Italy and began her film career. Luis Miguel Domingin was a hereditary matador, handsome and conqueror of women's hearts. He did not know Italian, and she could not understand a single Spanish word. But it seems that it was the misunderstanding that allowed them to be happy.
Lucia Bose
She was born in sunny Italy in 1931, and already as a teenager worked as a saleswoman in a Milan bakery, independently providing herself with her daily bread. Like any girl, Lucia dreamed of the time when she would become rich and famous.
In 1947, the Miss Italy contest was held in the city of Stresa. Lucia was only 16, and she was determined to use her chance. It is unlikely that at that moment she thought that she would immediately win first place, but the girl did it, bypassing Gina Lollobrigida herself in the beauty race, who took the third step in the same competition.
And only three years later, the girl appeared in the title role in the film by Giuseppe De Santis "There is no peace under the olives", playing a simple girl, a bride and a beloved shepherd. A little later, the second film was released with the participation of the young actress "The Chronicle of One Love" directed by Michelangelo Antonioni.
Then Lucia Bose's career developed rapidly. She starred a lot, playing equally well as aristocrats and peasants, and the audience was eagerly awaiting the appearance of new films with the participation of the actress. She played brightly and selflessly, it was hard to imagine that Lucia Bose did not have an acting education. Soon she was already called the symbol of Italian neorealism.
But ten years after such a successful start, the actress announced the completion of her work in the cinema. The story was as old as the world: the girl fell in love, got married, at the request of her husband stopped acting and completely moved away from public life.
Luis Miguel Domingin
He was born in 1926, his father was the matador Domingos Domingin, and two brothers of Luis Miguel, Pepe and Domingo, also became the successors of his father's business. Since childhood, Louis enthusiastically watched how his father worked in the arena, and therefore did not imagine how it was possible to do something else when there was a bullfight.
In 1947, when Lucia Bose won a beauty pageant, Luis was declared the new king of bullfighting. On that day, August 28, the best matador of Spain, the great Manolete, died in a battle with a bull. Domingin was shocked by the tragedy that had happened, he remembered what had happened until the end of his days.
He was young, successful and famous. And he is madly in love with the actress Rita Hayworth, whom he first saw on the screen as a child. He was not at all embarrassed by the 10-year age difference with the Hollywood diva (she was older), and in 1948 Luis Miguel went to conquer Rita Hayworth. He managed to attract the attention of the actress and, as it seemed to him, to win her heart. The novel was passionate, but very fleeting. Rita took it as an easy adventure, and the actress did not take the matador's desire to become more than a lover for her.
Since then, Domingin seemed to be trying to take revenge on all the women of the world. He easily started romances and quickly parted with beauties. Among his friends were the most famous representatives of the fair sex: the Spanish star Maria Felix, the famous model Chene Machado, the brilliant Ava Gardner and, it seems, even Sophia Loren herself. And the Mexican actress Miroslava Sternova committed suicide when she found out about the wedding of her beloved matador.
When spouses don't understand each other
Lucia Bose and Luis Miguel Domingin met in Madrid, where the actress flew in to shoot in the film Death of a Cyclist. Right at the airport, producer Manuel Goyanes introduced Lucia to Domingin. He did not speak Italian, she did not know Spanish and English. In addition, Bose was never interested in bullfighting and had no idea how famous her new acquaintance was.
But they did not need words: these two spoke exclusively in the language of love. Less than a few days later, a passionate romance broke out between the actress and the matador, the development of which was watched with amazement throughout Spain. Only a month has passed since their acquaintance, and on March 1, 1955, they became husband and wife. Luis did not want his wife to act in films and a few years after the wedding, Lucia announced her retirement.
Later, the actress will write in her memoirs that the language barrier became the cause of the passion that consumed them. When they learned to overcome it, it turned out that they are very different. Nevertheless, Lucia and Miguel lived together for 12 years, became the parents of three children, Miguel, Paola and Lucia, who later linked their lives with cinema.
But the marriage of Lucia Bose and Luis Miguel Domingin was not happy. The matador did not even think to be faithful to his wife, and she never became a member of his large Spanish family. In 1967, Lucia and Luis filed for divorce. The actress admitted: her husband never loved her and got married, succumbing to emotions.
Soon after the divorce, Lucia Bose began acting again, but she never regretted the time she spent taking care of the house and children. Today she is 88 years old and still lives in Spain.
Luis Miguel Domingin broke many more women's hearts in his life and was even carried away by the Soviet actress Tatyana Samoilova, whom he met at the Cannes Film Festival. The matador tried several times to finish work in the arena, but again returned to the bullfight. At 47, he fought his last fight. The bullfighter died of heart failure in 1996, several months before his 70th birthday.
Luis Miguel Domingin became the king of bullfighting after the death of Manuel Laureano Rodriguez, who performed under the pseudonym Manolete. Considered the most famous matador in Spain, for eight years he remained the most popular and successful matador in the world. He was allotted only 30 years of life, but during this time Manolete managed to win the love of thousands of Spaniards and one of the most coveted beauty, and he died just like most bullfighters - in a battle with a bull.
