An exact copy of the famous Roman Colosseum was built from Lego by a father of two children, a certified "Lego builder" Ryan McNaught … It took the author more than 200 thousand building blocks to recreate the Colosseum in all its majestic beauty. As a result Lego Colosseum striking in its realism and carefully crafted details. According to Ryan McNaught, this was the most technically challenging job he had ever done with Lego. Constructing an oval-shaped structure out of square bricks is a daunting task. Therefore, he became even more deeply imbued with respect for the Romans, who at one time created this unique architectural masterpiece. The Lego Colosseum sculpture is the first and so far the only copy of the Colosseum in the world built from Lego.
The Colosseum, designed by Ryan McNaught, is not only a dilapidated semi-circular amphitheater with columns, niches and steps. In an effort to convey the atmosphere of this historical place as accurately as possible, the author also reproduced open pavilions and sidewalks with figures of gladiators and ancient rulers surrounding the great Colosseum from the elements of the constructor. And to show what the Colosseum is today, Ryan McNaught included modern tourists, cars and mobile stalls with hot dogs and souvenirs in his art project.
The Lego Mini Colosseum is intended for the University of Sydney and is currently on display in Melbourne at the Nicholson Museum. There he can be seen until January 2013 inclusive.
