French artist and designer Sandrine Pelletier is from Switzerland. She creates an amazing-looking installation from woolen threads and latex. Drawing inspiration from folk art, arts and crafts and DIY (from the English DIY, D. I. Y.; Do It Yourself - "do it yourself" - a culture of learning useful skills), Sandrine never ceases to amaze viewers with new works.
Pelletier has long and successfully experimented with various kinds of materials, changing the generally accepted idea of the boundaries of genres and trends. For example, her installation with the nostalgic title "Goodbye Horses" is made entirely of wool threads covered with a mixture of black latex and resin. The structure depicting four racing horses is attached to the ceiling using the same threads that it consists of. For the first time, the installation was shown in the halls of Galerie Rosa Turetsky, successfully fitting into the gallery space.
After graduating from a designer's degree, Pelletier began with illustrations and embroidery, but very quickly abandoned this occupation in favor of three-dimensional work. “At first it was not easy for me to choose a creative path - I was attracted by the craft of a designer, photographer, illustrator … Soon I realized that there was no need to choose - you can combine all types of activities - good, now is a very favorable period for this,” says the artist.
The artist was born and raised in Lausanne (Switzerland) and currently lives and works in Paris. One of Pelletier's last completed projects is color illustrations for several book publications, as well as a large-scale portrait of Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan (Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan) - the fourteenth ruler of the Al Nahyan clan, ruler of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and President of the United Arab Emirates.
French artist Elodie Antoine also uses woolen threads in her work. One of the last projects of the Frenchwoman was a series of works on an industrial theme made of lace. It is noteworthy that while doing lace-making, the artist chose a completely "unfeminine" theme: Antoine depicts bridges, various industrial objects, stations and industrial buildings.
