This story is truly tragic: Robert Scott and his group hit the road in 1912, just a month later than the famous Roald Amundsen. Although Scott was not much less equipped than Amundsen, he shouldn’t have relied on snowmobiles and Manchu ponies: the animals were frozen, and the automatic equipment refused on the way. As a result, the discoverers with great difficulty reached the South Pole, having accomplished the main feat of their lives. But this feat turned out, firstly, no longer necessary: Robert Scott found at the Pole only evidence that Amundsen was ahead of him. And secondly, he became the last in the life of polar explorers. On the way back, terribly tired and disappointed, Scott and his people died one after another, disappearing forever in the snows of the icy continent.

And in 1956, the hut of his expedition was found, preserved intact under a deep layer of snow. It has become a home-museum, covered with the scent of antiquity and the romantic era of the Great Geographical Discoveries. Here, in the heart of Antarctica, behind simple log walls (although the construction of even such a building was a great feat on a land bound by frost), lie artifacts of equipment and equipment of Robert Scott: newspapers, magazines and books taken on the way, household items a century ago, old Scott's expedition instrumentation and loot, including an emperor penguin egg.

The exquisite dishes prepared by the chef of the expedition with the use of seal and penguin meat have also survived: the stomachs of the polar explorers, in case of emergency, were protected by a bottle of licorice powder stored in the first-aid kit. V Robert Scott's house there are also maps compiled by travelers during the polar campaign. But still the most valuable exhibit of this house-museum is Robert Scott's diary, in which he, interspersed with weather observations and dry calendar notes, describes the clouds gathering over the expedition and intensifying hardships, hunger and frost.

Scott kept a diary until the last, until the polar discoverers decided to get out of the ice captivity and go home - a path that was not destined to go. His hut was included by the Times magazine among the hundred most dangerous places on earth: the cold and absolute inaccessibility to civilization make this snowy desert deadly. But she also succumbed to the man - this is what the house reminds of Robert Scottchallenging nature at the very end of the earth.
