It would be a mistake to think that there was no fashion in the Soviet Union. There were problems finding outfits or interesting models. However, there were fashionistas and women of fashion, which ordinary Soviet citizens tried to be equal to. Today they can be called true icons of the style of the Soviet era, and their costumes are still capable of arousing admiration. Even in the photographs of that time, you can see how carefully every detail of the dress was verified by the followers of fashion.
Lyudmila Gurchenko
The famous actress can rightfully be called the first fashionista of the Soviet Union. Probably, almost every woman dreamed of getting a similar outfit. Lyudmila Gurchenko herself carefully took care of her wardrobe and could afford to leave the house only on condition of perfect appearance.
Lyudmila Gurchenko often decorated her costumes herself, and took an active part in the development of sketches of concert dresses, often drawing the model herself. In the 1960s, she sewed herself, looked for interesting fabrics, learned to work with lace and even make hats. At a time when they almost stopped filming her, the actress lived on the income from sewing, dressing not only herself, but also her friends.
High heels and jewelry with emeralds have been present in her life since she became famous, but feathers, rhinestones, ruffles and roses in combination with high shoulders appeared a little later, already in the 1980s. Then the image of the actress became more extravagant, it was already difficult to imitate her. Her favorite period for inspiration for her amazing costumes was the 1920s, with a mix of fabrics from chiffon to velvet, charming hats and mysterious veils.

Andrey Mironov
He was not just a fashionista, he could be called a hostage of fashion, so much he loved beautiful fashionable clothes and did not tolerate negligence in the wardrobe. He was the first in the whole course to have super-fashionable boots with thick soles and jeans. The Beatle turtleneck, in which the actor starred in The Diamond Hand, became famous throughout the country and became a coveted wardrobe item for every fashionista.
Stylish suits, elegant ties, fashionable turtlenecks - Andrei Mironov was one of those who helped shape fashion trends in the Soviet Union.
Maya Plisetskaya
Maya Plisetskaya was distinguished by her impeccable sense of style in following fashion. At the beginning of her career, she did not have the opportunity to travel abroad because of her repressed parents; the ballerina dressed from blacksmiths. The name of Klara, from whom “Plisetskaya herself” often acquired outfits, is still remembered.
Later, Maya Plisetskaya met Coco Chanel and Yves Saint Laurent, began to take part in shows abroad, made friends for many years and became the inspiration for Pierre Cardin. The latter, not without pleasure, not only dressed his muse, but sewed her stage costumes. However, Yves Saint Laurent, Halston and Jean-Paul Gaultier also took part in creating images for Plisetskaya's performances.

Lyubov Orlova
The star of Soviet cinema always tried to look perfect. She was ready to sacrifice a lot to beauty. Trying to create a hairstyle similar to the style of the actress, Soviet women said in the hairdresser's: "For Orlova!" It was much more difficult to copy the outfits of the actress, but the craftswomen diligently redrawn the styles of dresses and costumes of the screen images of Lyubov Orlova in a notebook.
The actress herself believed that a woman under any circumstances should be beautiful, no matter how difficult it may be. And she herself strictly followed this rule.

Alexander Abdulov
A favorite of spectators and directors, handsome and womanizer Alexander Abdulov outwardly completely corresponded to the image of a star. He was a holiday man in everything: in behavior, dress, attitude towards people. There is a known case when he was in a hurry to celebrate Larisa Dolina's anniversary in Moscow after a performance that he played in St. Petersburg. And right on the Leningradskoe highway, I changed into a suit so as not to appear at the holiday rumpled. At four in the morning, he appeared before the eyes of the birthday girl in an impeccable snow-white suit and holding a bouquet of white roses.

Clara Luchko
The unsurpassed Klara Luchko has been accustomed to dress well since childhood. Her first milliner was her neighbor Aunt Julia, to whom the actress came even when she was already famous. Her outfits have always been elegant, and at the Cannes Film Festival she was nicknamed "the red bomb" for her appearance in an amazing red dress, made in the All-Union House of Models. Stunning hats, with which Klara Stepanovna invariably complemented her costume, were the ultimate dream of many Soviet fashionistas.
In films that today are called classics of Soviet cinema, often not only heroes, but even their outfits became legendary: they were considered the standard of style and role model. Over the creation of these outfits, the designers and costume designers who remained behind the scenes had to work hard.
