Remember how the Little Prince traveled to different planets and got to know their inhabitants? Each time a new adventure, a new discovery, new people, plants, animals awaited him. Installation Islands from a german art studio Rainbowmonkey resembles that part of the Universe where the Little Prince lived. Island-planets floating in space, and each of them has its own history, its inhabitants with their own little things and problems. The islands-planets look like they are giant boulders of rocks that came off after a powerful earthquake, and hovered between somewhere between heaven and earth. Each block is inhabited by a small group of people who strive to survive in the current situation. Some build pyramids, others call for help, some explore the area, and some just enjoy the fact that they are alive, and can sunbathe, dance, lie on the grass and communicate with other people.
The miniature figures of the inhabitants of these flying islands are made so masterly that one can see the emotions they experience on their tiny faces. Not to mention the eloquent poses in which they are. Like midgets in the land of giants, these kids dance on the body of the defeated Mickey Mouse, get their food in the thicket, which is actually thick grass, and hide from the hot sun in the shade … In general, they have adapted and are relatively happy. At least it all looks like that.
In total, the Islands installation includes 11 colorful islands, which, according to the author, carry a deep meaning. So, he believes that often people get hung up on the simplest everyday things that do not have deep meaning and, in fact, are completely unimportant. Once on these small islands in critical situations, they begin to understand what is really important and appreciate the experience gained. More information about the project is on the Rainbowmonkey website.
