Just as Michelangelo saw the angels imprisoned in marble and worked the stone until he released them, Gordon Bennett finds, among the most diverse junk, parts for his wonderful robotic sculptures, giving life to the spirits of old sewing machines, cars, household equipment and other junk.
Gordon Benet studied design and advertising at the University of Syracuse. He is a member of the Brooklyn Arts Council. Gordon has been creating robots for over seven years. His robot sculptures are in various private collections in the USA, Europe and Japan.
Although Gordon's workshop is located in Brooklyn, New York, he and his family have to constantly scour landfills and junk sales for inspiration and spare parts for new robots. According to the American artist, not every piece of iron is suitable for creative work. For his robots, Bennett chooses the best wood, glass, plastic and of course iron.
Benet spends at least a month to create each robot, and each of his work is unique. The height of the sculptures ranges from 14-25 inches. Robots do not move, because these are not toys, but sculptures.
