Pictures that will melt your face. This is the original and unexpected name of a series of no less unexpected creative works of the design studio. WonderBros, in which many recognize the characteristic style of the Cubists, followers of the unforgettable Pablo Picasso … And this is not surprising, since it is to him, Picasso, that this art project is dedicated. Taking two dozen famous images superheroes, the artists of the design studio tried to imagine how the posters with their image could look like if the great maestro himself took over to draw them. It is believed that it is impossible to imitate Picasso, that his style cannot be copied, and all attempts to create an imitation, parody or variation on the theme are doomed to failure, to total failure. Whereas in the experiment with superheroes from WonderBros, you can personally see that this is not the case. Characters familiar from childhood are distorted a little more than completely, but their images remain recognizable, and it is not difficult to determine who is who in this series of paintings.
Superman and Wonder Woman, Flash and Green Lantern, Hulk and Joker, Spiderman and Batman, Captain America and other heroes of comics, films, cartoons and books appear before us in an unexpected way. Their images were ground with pop-art and contemporary art, in the hope of getting a retro sound from them. And judging by the rave reviews of connoisseurs of such experiments, the attempt was a success. At least, the art project looks fresh, original, and, importantly, it gives an opportunity to reflect on what contribution the Cubists, Dadaists and followers of other currents made to the development of contemporary art.
The full series of Pablo Picasso-inspired superhero posters can be found on the WonderBros website.
