Researchers argue that the most popular Christmas composition is actually not only non-Christmas, but also obscene. In any case, it was like that in its original version.
Jingle Bells, widely known and often used on New Year's holidays, which is also considered (according to popular opinion) a Christmas classic, is actually intended for a completely different holiday. The thing is that the song Jingle Bells was written in 1857 by James Pierpont. However, at the time of its creation, it bore a different name, namely - One Horse Open Sleigh and narrated about such a holiday as Thanksgiving Day.
The composition was transformed into a Christmas composition known as Jingle Bells (apparently) due to the numerous references to winter fun and sledges. It is this detail that most likely played a decisive role in the formation of the song as a Christmas one, known all over the world today, thanks to the works of Western culture and advertising of various goods.
As for the original - One Horse Open Sleigh, it seems that the song was intended to be performed at school evenings. Other researchers point out that the composition was most likely used by people during a festive feast, since some indecent hints can be traced in the original.
Separately, it should be noted that today the song Jingle Bells has become one of the most recognizable attributes of the winter holidays. In fairness, it should be noted that in fact there are a huge number of other compositions of this kind, the vast majority of which were written in the period from the 16th to the 21st century. Not so long ago, a popular musician even recorded a video in which he played a selection of the most recognizable Christmas tunes on the piano.
