Almost everyone at least once in his life has cut something beautiful from a sheet of white paper - like a New Year's patterned "snowflake". Artist Sarah Trumbauer managed to bring this art to perfection. A blank sheet and a paper knife are enough for her to create truly wonderful works - mainly illustrations for her favorite fairy tales.
Sara Trumbauer gives her viewers the opportunity to guess which fairy tale inspired this or that picture. However, this is not so important: even if the direct "sources of inspiration" cannot be recalled, individual images will still seem familiar to anyone. The main thing in these works is not boring illustrativeness, but a sense of magic, which is only enhanced by the artist's technical skill.
The world of Sara Trumbauer is inhabited by mysterious owls, elegant swans and sad young ladies - apparently rejected by their courtiers - princesses: Hans Christian Andersen and Charles Perrault would surely be satisfied. Some works also refer to a more "ironic" modification of the same genre: the heroine begins to resemble Alice, and the suspicious animal sitting on a tree - a smiling Cheshire cat.
Many contemporary artists turn to children's fairy tales, in which many of the key signs and archetypes of human thinking are embodied. For example, on Kulturologia.ru we already wrote about Emily Nathan, creating photographic illustrations for fairy tales "for adults".
Trumbauer's creativity, however, is not limited to a single role. In addition to pictures from the life of "sad princesses", Sara Trumbauer also cuts out "inspiring" quotes from paper, taken from folklore or from books with sayings of prominent people. "Everything you can imagine is real" - this phrase Pablo Picassoseems to be one of the artist's favorite sayings. Indeed, her works are a clear demonstration of the fact that the artist does not need rich clients and his own workshop in the center of Paris to realize himself. Enough inspiration.
