“Be afraid of your desires, they tend to come true”, - in their installations the team Littlewhitehead as if illustrating the veracity of this saying, emphasizing the negative thoughts and aspirations of people. One of the most memorable and striking examples is the work Sentient Orbsdepicting a boy hanging from the ceiling with an armful of balloons.
“In our work, there is a strong connection between the reality around us and something like an escape into an invented world,” the authors explain. - This invented world is constructed in the course of our dialogue, in which, along with an encyclopedic number of links and horror videos, there are also current events and subconscious reflections. And in this world, unlike the one in which we actually live, we can fulfill our worst desires."
In the installation "Sentient Orbs", the authors demonstrate to us such human qualities as greed and lack of a sense of proportion. Instead of rejoicing at the bundle of brightly colored balloons, the boy picked up so many of them that he lifted himself off the ground and crashed into the ceiling.
Littlewhitehead is a creative duo from Glasgow, Scotland, which includes Craig Little and Blake Whitehead. The installations, for which the authors draw ideas from observations of the urban working class and post-industrial culture, always contain a dose of black humor, causing the viewer to feel a vague sense of anxiety and discomfort. As critics point out, in Littlewhitehead's work, scenes that we usually see only in the media or films suddenly burst decisively into our real world.
