The tweet that 17-year-old Andrea left just a few days ago speaks for itself "Cancer can't make me stop feeling like a princess." Andrea has been a model for five years now, and her last photo shoot, inspired by fairy-tale princesses, shows the girl as she is - feminine, elegant. And without a wig. However, the confidence with which Andrea poses was not always inherent in the girl.
Andrea Sierra Salazar first found out that she had cancer when she felt a small lump on her neck. "Until that moment, I did not suspect anything," the girl says. The doctor diagnosed stage II lymphoma. Due to constant visits to the hospital, the girl had to take time out in training, and then Andrea's mother invited her daughter to try herself as a model.
For a while, Andrea completely immersed herself in a modeling career. This gave her confidence. But one day the time came when, due to chemotherapy, the girl began to lose her hair, and with it her confidence. “Before chemotherapy, I believed in myself, I thought that everything would work out for me, - says Andrea. - And when my hair began to fall out, I looked in the mirror and no longer saw my former confidence.”
Andrea decided to experiment with wigs, however, she did not feel the same in them as before. Everything was wrong, everything was wrong. Until one day she met with photographer Gerardo Garmendia, who persuaded the girl to pose without a wig. Of course, the very idea that a 17-year-old girl would pose bald in front of the camera scared her. “And then I realized that there is simply no reason why I should be ashamed of the way I look, - says Andrea. - I should be proud. It's not only about external beauty, but also about internal. thoughts, I decided on a photo shoot without a wig."
Bold photos of Andrea instantly spread across social networks. However, popularity was not the girl's goal. She would like to convey the idea to other girls who, like herself, have cancer, that there is no need to despair of losing their hair. "I see these little girls in the hospital, and I see them lose confidence in themselves. And I want to tell them - your hair, and in general how you look, does not determine who you are. Your inner beauty is much more important, then how you treat other people, your kindness, your soul."
In Canada, there is a community of Henna Heals artists who, in their own way, help women who have lost their hair after chemotherapy to regain their self-confidence. Artists make original henna tattoos for women on the head instead of hair - absolutely magical feminine and graceful "henna crowns" are obtained.
