“I am a mother for those who have no one,” says about himself Sindhutai Sapkal, A 68-year-old activist who is referred to in India as "Mother of Orphans" … She has grown more 1400 children, who for various reasons were left without parents and guardianship, helped them not only to get an education, but also to create their own happy families. During her life she received 750 awards, but she considers the love of her pupils to be real gratitude for her work.
Sapkal's fate was tragic: she was born into a poor family and had to leave school at the age of 9, as she had to prepare for a wedding with a 20-year-old boy who seemed like a good party to her parents. After 10 years of married life, she became pregnant, but her heartless husband kicked her out of the house just before giving birth. The parents did not provide any support either. They did not accept Sapkal with a baby, even after she admitted that she had to give birth in a barn, alone, and cut the umbilical cord with the stone she found.
Sapkal began to wander. To earn a piece of bread, she sang at train stations, walked with her daughter in her arms. Then she realized for the first time how many orphans were around; out of compassion, the woman always shared with them what little she had.
However, despair did not leave Sapkal, she had no hope of extricating herself from the prevailing circumstances. She even had the idea of committing suicide, as well as killing her own child. When she was already ready to take this step, she accidentally met a beggar dying of thirst. Sapkal decided that she must definitely do a good deed before death, she fed and watered the sufferer. He began to thank her warmly. This meeting changed Sapkal's intentions, she suddenly realized that her vocation and mission on Earth was to help those in need.
Throughout her life, Sapkal helped 1400 children. Among them were vagabonds picked up at train stations, newborn babies found in garbage cans, and there were those brought by stray dogs … Everyone stayed with Sapkal as long as he needed. She is sure that the child cannot be put out the door as soon as he turns 18. “It is not true that they are wise and independent at this age. On the contrary, they need even more support. The fact that a chick has wings does not mean that it can fly,”Sapkal says.
Most of her pupils achieve success in life: her adopted children have become doctors, lawyers, among them there are even professors. Despite the fact that Sapkal is already 68 years old, she still willingly takes on the upbringing of kids. She often travels to the villages with lectures, and after her speech, one of the local residents always comes up to her with a request to adopt a baby who has become an orphan. Sapkal always takes a receipt from the head of the village, and never refuses such requests.
Sapkal lives on donations given by people who are not indifferent to her good cause. During her life, she built four houses, which housed her huge family.
The "father of orphans" can be called a Vietnamese who buried children from an abortion clinic for 15 years and saved more than 100 babies. There are thousands of graves in the cemetery he created. This is a warning to all women who want to end the life of their child, which has barely begun …
