Oslo residents chose Swedish artist Jonas Dahlberg to design three monuments to the victims of Norwegian terrorist Anders Bering Breivik. One of the memorials will look like a 3.5 meter wide cut in the earth. The implementation of Dalberg's projects will cost the state 27 million Norwegian kroner (approximately 163 million rubles).

The brightest of the three memorials is called the Memory Wound. The gigantic 3.5-meter-wide "cut" in the rocky part of the Sørbråten peninsula, from which you can see the island of Utøya, where Breivik killed 69 people in 2011, will be a metaphor for the incredible grief that the Norwegian land has endured.

One hundred cubic meters of rock extracted from the "cut" will be transported to the Oslo area adjacent to the complex of government buildings, where another memorial will mark the place where Breivik organized the explosion of a rented Volkswagen minibus stuffed with explosives, which killed 8 people.

A third memorial, "Time and Movement", will also be erected in Oslo near the city library using trees recovered from Sørbroten.

Breivik, who was found sane, guilty and sentenced to 21 years in prison, said in 2012 in an Oslo court that his victims, many of whom were teenagers on vacation at a youth summer camp for the ruling Norwegian Workers' Party, contributed to the "Islamization of Norway."

“This is a big responsibility and in many ways the most important job in my life,” Dahlberg says in an interview with the Guardian newspaper. “The invitation to participate in this competition was already an honor for me, so my feelings of victory are difficult even to describe.” The artist hopes that the memorial will play its role with the help of a “poetic strain”. “The natural beauty of this landscape must be experienced along with a sense of loss,” he adds.

Visitors to the "Wound of Memory" memorial will approach it through the forest along a wooden deck that turns into a tunnel that ends with an observation deck in the "cut" itself. On the opposite vertical stone surface of the artificial crevice, the names of all victims of the July 22 terrorist attack will be engraved - close enough to read, but out of touch - as a sign of eternal memory and irreparable loss.

The "wound of memory" will be an excellent reminder that the terrible tragedy of mass destruction of children and adolescents by physically healthy, but in their hearts rotten fanatics can happen not only in war, but also in peacetime in a well-fed and outwardly prosperous society.
