Of course, we all want to bring good photos from our vacation. But it is important to consider not only how to stand up correctly in order to capture your best angle, but also the circumstances. Israeli artist Shahak Shapira specifically published a project called Yolocaust to shame young people who have fun and take endless hilarious selfies in front of one of the most tragic memorials in the world - a memorial dedicated to the victims of the Holocaust.

“In recent years, I have noticed an interesting trend at the Holocaust Memorial in Berlin: people began to use it as a background for their own selfies,” Shahak Shapira says of his Yolocaust project. “So I took these selfies and combined them with original photographs from Nazi concentration camps."

It was not difficult for Shahak to find such selfies - they are in huge numbers in the public domain on any social network, be it Facebook, Instagram, or even on the dating site Tinder. The artist also decided to leave the original signatures of the authors of these photos, and the number of likes from other people. Smiling, laughing, doing yoga or even showing tricks - the artist has reviewed thousands of such photographs. Some even had absolutely monstrous comments like "Jumping over dead Jews" underneath.

“Every day, about 10,000 people visit the memorial to the perished Jews in Berlin. Many of them take stupid photographs in which they skate through the memorials, speed up their bike along the aisles. But the meaning of this memorial is completely different. These are, in fact, graves those six million killed, tortured, buried in mass graves or burned in concentration camps."

Shahak asks to remove such photos from social networks. The Holocaust Memorial is not a place for fun and smiling selfies. This is the place where you need to realize the fragility of our life, the tragic consequences of human ambition, this place is all that remains of the six million dead Jews who died just for who they were.
