The jury of the Booker Prize, which has international status and is awarded to books in English, has published a shortlist of this year's finalists on the official website. Among the names of the applicants for the prize was the writer from Russia Maria Stepanova, who presented her essay book "In Memory of Memory" to the authoritative jury, which is dedicated to the memory of the past and her family history. In addition to the book by the Russian writer, 5 works were included in the shortlist: "All Black Blood at Night" by Frenchman David Diop, "The Dangers of Smoking in Bed" by Argentinian writer Miriana Labatut, Danish Co-workers Olga Ravn and "Poor War" by Eric Vuillard from France. It is known that the winner will be announced on June 2 at an online ceremony, which will be held in British Coventry.

Stepanova's book "In Memory of Memory" was published in 2017 and has earned truly rave reviews from literary critics. The prose and poems of Maria Stepanova have been translated into many languages and published more than once in Europe. Russian critics did not disregard her works either. In 2010, Stepanova received a scholarship from the Brodsky Foundation. Today her poems have been translated into Hebrew, Finnish, English, Italian, French, German, Serbo-Croatian and many other languages.
It is worth recalling that earlier Russian writers Lyudmila Ulitskaya and Vladimir Sorokin were nominated for the Booker competition. The International Booker Prize was approved in 2005. This booker, unlike the usual one, is awarded to foreign writers for books that have been translated into English and published in Ireland or the UK. The winner will be awarded a cash prize of £ 50,000, which the writer will share in half with the translator. All shortlisted authors and translators will receive £ 1,000 each.
