50 years ago, in the fall of 1966, a film was released, which today can be considered the funniest asset of Soviet cinema - "Prisoner of the Caucasus" by Leonid Gaidai. But movie officials considered some of the comedy jokes too harsh, and subjected the picture to a thorough censorship purge. The "Song of the Sultan", which was considered immoral, also fell under the scissors.

One of the most memorable musical scenes in the film "Prisoner of the Caucasus" was the song "Song of the Sultan", which was performed by Yuri Nikulin. But the artistic council saw in the lines an open propaganda of an immoral lifestyle. Artistic director of the Luch association at Mosfilm comrade Pyryev said that the song should be excluded from the film, but screenwriter Yakov Kostyukovsky managed to defend two verses out of four - the first and the last.

As a result, when the second verse was supposed to sound, the viewer hears only the name of Zulfiya, and then immediately sees another frame - Nina's uncle clinks glasses with his reflection in the mirror, celebrating the victory. In this fragment, only a melody without words is heard, and then again in the frame the dancing trinity and Nikulin finish singing about the three mother-in-law.

A few years after the premiere at the Melodiya company, a disc with songs from the film Prisoner of the Caucasus was released, where Nikulin recorded all four verses. The song spread to radio stations, and many had a strong feeling that the words of the song in the film sound in full.

And in his personal life, this wonderful actor had his own concept of happiness: Yuri Nikulin and Tatiana Pokrovskaya lived together a whole happy life.
