Today, one of the most famous Italians in the world, a wonderful singer, composer, actor, director and TV presenter Adriano Celentano turns 80. And in adulthood, he did not lose his attractiveness and charm, and films with his participation still do not lose their popularity all over the world. "The Taming of the Shrew" Is one of the most famous of them. However, not everyone knows that Soviet viewers did not see several episodes cut by the censorship. And the answer to the question whether there was a romance between the main characters in life, Adriano Celentano and Ornella Muti gave only recently.

The title of the film is a reference to the Shakespearean comedy The Taming of the Shrew, where the protagonist Petruchio tries to win the favor of the wayward Katarina. In the film, gender roles change - the heroine conquers an unsociable and gloomy farmer with a bad character. However, this is not the only allusion to the well-known plot.

The name of the main character Elia is a reference to the biblical prophet Ilya, who was distinguished by an irreconcilable disposition and rebelled against a woman, trying to reason with the wicked and weak-willed king who fell under the rule of his cunning wife Jezebel (the name of the main character - Lisa - is also an allusion to this plot). In the film, there is also a direct reference in the phrase: “Elia? That was the name of one of the prophets, it seems … Maybe you, too, can predict the future? " The biblical motive is also present in the scene where Elia talks to the crows, urging them to fly away to an abandoned piece of land (in the Bible, the crows offered food to the prophet Elijah). Hero Celentano says: "". And his dialogue with the priest about the predictions for the harvest is an allusion to the biblical story of how Ilya predicted famine.

The most famous scene of the film is Celentano's incendiary dance when he crushes grapes with his feet. And this episode was not accidental. The action in the film takes place in the small Italian town of Voghera, which really has been famous for its winemaking traditions since ancient times, while the technology of grape harvesting and wine production has changed little here for 1000 years. Therefore, the scene with the crush of grapes with feet was actually not an exaggeration. Local residents still call the vineyards the main attraction, since almost the entire population was involved in the harvest every year. The wines from this region are famous all over the world. Voghera is on the way from Portofino to Milan, the main character was heading along this road. And the very gas station at which Ornella Muti either undressed or left without paying, actually existed and has survived to this day. She is an hour's drive from Voghera.

The film appeared in the Soviet film distribution in 1983 and enjoyed incredible popularity - it took 11th place in attendance among all foreign films. However, the censorship cut out several episodes from the film, and some of them were quite harmless: for example, the hunting scene, where Elia refuses to shoot the ducks, but instead aims at the hunters themselves and knocks the guns out of their hands with her shots. Also, Soviet viewers were not shown the scene where Elia's cow was calving, and the episode of a fight in a restaurant between Lisa and her friend. Of course, the scene of the seduction of Elia, where Ornella Muti starred half-naked in bed with Celentano, did not go through the censorship. As a result, this episode looked rather strange: Lisa says: "", and immediately after that she suddenly calls her boyfriend with a request to come and pick her up. Later, the full version of the film appeared on TV screens, but more often the shortened version is still shown.

The Celentano-Muti couple looked so impressive that immediately after the release of the film, everyone started talking about their romance in real life. Both actors were married, but Ornella soon left her husband and, as they said, expected the same from Celentano, who at that time had been married for almost 20 years. Such rumors often accompany the actors, and then no one paid much attention to them. But many years after the premiere, the scandal flared up with renewed vigor: Celentano admitted that they really had a fleeting romance. The actress was not satisfied with the status of a mistress and she expected a divorce and an offer from him, but he never left his wife.
