He agreed primarily because he wanted to congratulate his own son on the holiday, with whom his ex-wife does not allow him to meet. The Snow Maiden actress turns out to be as lonely and not too happy in her personal life, as he is, and romantic feelings arise between the heroes.
The melodramatic plot was simple and uncomplicated and, probably, the popularity of the film was primarily due to the actors who played the main roles. Both Vladimir Menshov and Irina Alferova at that time were already stars of the first magnitude in the USSR. Menshov was known as an actor and director of the films "Rally", "Moscow Does Not Believe in Tears", "Love and Doves", and Alferova became famous for her roles in the films "Walking the Torment", "D'Artagnan and the Three Musketeers", "Do not part with your loved ones ". In 1985, 7 films with the participation of the actress were released, but the New Year's melodrama became her brightest work of this year.

This film became one of the best New Year's stories filmed in Leningrad. The footage shows the historical center of the city: Nevsky Prospect, Gostiny Dvor and the square in front of the Alexandrinsky Theater.
