Graffiti art can be found everywhere in the city: on walls, houses, fences. But why stop there, why not choose a larger canvas, because the field for creativity will become much wider. Why not paint the walls of a dull Scottish castle brightly colored? Of course, you first need to find one. And in this case, the Brazilian graffiti artists were very lucky, because the owners of the castle themselves provided them with the whole tower as a coloring, without limiting the flight of their fantasies.
The idea of the project is simple and original: to take a lively and energetic, sometimes very short-lived form of Brazilian graffiti art from its familiar context and apply it on the walls of an old Scottish castle. As you know, the tradition of Brazilian graffiti is alive with rich colors. It brilliantly illuminates the gloomy Scottish countryside with flashy colors and a riot of colors, even in rainy and foggy weather.
Kelburn is considered to be one of the oldest castles in Scotland and has been inhabited by the same family for many years. The Norman structure, which was intended more for protection than comfort, was erected around 1200. The final construction of the castle was completed in 1581. Kelburn Castle brought together four of the world's leading graffiti artists from Brazil, who began work on the project with talent from Scotland to create a unique explosion of color by painting the walls and towers of the castle on the south side. The modern urban art form has not found adherents among the inhabitants of the village where the old and magnificent building is located. Kelburn is a project of contrasts, a kind of bridge between different cultures, between past and present, old and modern.
