Alapaevsk - a small Ural town, which, by the will of fate, had to acquire unkind fame. The black day of its history was July 18, 1918. On this day, by order of the Bolsheviks, she was killed here Romanov family … For the fact that the relatives of the royal family took martyrdom, later they were canonized.
Relatives of the Romanov family came to the Urals at the behest of the Bolsheviks. After the political coup, it became obvious that the Romanov family could not stay in the capital. While the tsar and his family were under arrest in the Ipatiev house, a decision was made to exile the rest of the Romanovs to the Urals, which seemed to be an excellent solution to the problem. The mining town of Alapaevsk was chosen as the place of exile.
For the first months, the exile for the Romanovs was quite liberal: isolated from the center, they were able to live freely, move freely around the city, attend church, and carry on correspondence. True, this did not last long: already in mid-June, the regime was strengthened, turning it, in fact, into a prison sentence, after the "escape" of Prince Mikhail Alexandrovich from Alapaevsk (in fact, the prince was secretly killed by agents of the Cheka). It became obvious: sooner or later, all the relatives of the Romanovs will be overtaken by the same fate.
The tragedy took place the day after the shooting in the Ipatiev house. The method of murder was brutal: the Bolsheviks brought the whole family to one of the mines and began beating them with ordinary axes. After the butt blows, the bodies of the Romanovs were thrown to the bottom of the mine. The fate of those for whom the blow was not fatal seems to be extremely terrible: the survivors suffered from their injuries and thirst for several more days, dying in agony. The Romanov family was very religious and, according to local legends, prayers were heard from the mine after the execution for several days.
The remains of the Romanovs were discovered only when Kolchak's army entered the city. The mine was blown up, but the search expedition still managed to find the bodies. Among the searchers was Abbot Seraphim, a monk of the Belogorsk Monastery, who was very friendly with Princess Elizabeth Feodorovna. Even during her lifetime, he gave her his word that no matter what happened, he would bury her ashes in Jerusalem. True to this promise, the abbot by hook or by crook managed to take the bodies of all the Romanovs out of Alapaevsk. It took Seraphim about two years to complete all the procedures for their repose. Elizabeth's body found its last refuge in Jerusalem, the rest of the family members are buried in Beijing.
