Video: Unknown actresses of the "White Sun of the Desert": Who were Abdullah's wives behind the scenes
2024 Author: Richard Flannagan | [email protected]. Last modified: 2023-12-15 23:55
This film became one of the most popular among the people in the entire history of Soviet cinema. But most viewers did not suspect that initially it was not a story about a revolution in Asian countries, and the main characters were not Sukhov, Vereshchagin and Petrukha, but Abdullah and his wife - after all, the first title of the film was "Save the Harem". Why the main idea had to be radically changed, and the names of the actresses who played the wives from Abdullah's harem, so no one found out - further in the review.
The plot of the script was based on a story told by a participant in the Civil War, about how Basmachi in Central Asia, fleeing from the Red Army, threw their harems in the desert. Initially, the main characters were Abdullah's wives and himself, so the film was called Save the Harem. However, such a name seemed ambiguous to the cinematic leadership, and the main topic was too shallow, and the director was tasked with making a film about how the revolution took place in Asian countries. In order for the audience to see the "White Sun of the Desert", Vladimir Motyl had to make more than 30 edits to the already filmed material, and cut out many scenes.
Only two of Abdullah's nine wives were actresses, the rest were far from the world of cinema. The shooting took place in Dagestan and Tajikistan, at a temperature of 45 degrees in the shade, women could hardly endure the heat. Plus, they needed to get back to their main job after filming the main scenes. And in those episodes where they did not need to reveal their faces, they were replaced by conscripts from the neighboring unit and members of the film crew, dressed in a burqa. Commands to this "harem" were given by the foreman, and at the end of the scenes, instead of the command "stop!" the director shouted "leave!" Local girls refused to participate in the filming - and the soldiers were puffed up.
Svetlana Slivinskaya
The role of the eldest wife of Abdulla Saida was played by Svetlana Slivinskaya - a writer, translator, art critic. She agreed to try on the image of the smartest and oldest wife just out of curiosity. Later she said: "".
Unfortunately, several episodes with her participation were cut from the final version of the film. Slivinskaya said: "". In the future, Slivinskaya did not want to continue acting in films and never regretted it.
Velta Deglav
The tallest wife of Abdullah Hafiza was also played by the non-professional actress Velta Deglav. At that time, she was a student of the Faculty of Philology at the University of Latvia, went in for sports, played in a youth basketball team. After filming, she graduated from the university, was engaged in journalism and social activities, was a member of the Latvian parliament, and then took the post of chairman of the board of the Children's and Adolescent Heart Health Fund.
Alla Limenez
For Alla Limenez, the role of Zarina also became the only one in the movie. She got to the shooting quite by accident - she went to the Leningrad Fashion House, and there the assistant director approached her and offered to take part in the filming. In the film, her heroine says only one phrase: "". And the director himself voiced her - a rough male voice fully corresponded to the image of the harsh Zarina. She really did not like the fact that her character was made with a mustache, but she did not argue with the director. Alla recalled: "".
She worked as an engineer all her life and did not even think about continuing to act in films. "", - says Alla.
Zinaida Rakhmatova
Almost nothing is known about the performer of the role of Zulfiya Zinaida Rakhmatova. This was her only film role that she herself never spoke about. The press wrote that in fact she was a girl of easy virtue, and that the director's assistants found her at a "workplace" near the Leningrad Astoria Hotel. How much this is true is difficult to say.
Tatiana Krichevskaya
The role of Jamila went to Tatiana Krichevskaya, who graduated from LGITMiK shortly before filming began. In the film, her character says the phrase: "". After "White Sun of the Desert" she starred in two more films in the 1980s, but did not achieve success in the acting profession. In 1994 she passed away.
Lydia Smirnova
For Lydia Smirnova, the role of Leila was the only one. The girl got to the shooting quite by accident: once she was walking along Nevsky Prospekt, assistant director Ernest Yasan saw her and offered her a role in the film. Nothing is known about her further fate.
Marina Stavitskaya
The face of the non-professional actress Marina Stavitskaya, who played the episodic role of Guzel, was not shown in close-up. There is no information about what she was doing at that time and what happened to her after.
Tatiana Tkach
The role of the beloved wife of Abdulla Zukhra went to the professional actress Tatyana Tkach. She was promised a big role, but in the end she was reduced to a minimum. She owed her appearance in the film to the actor Pavel Luspekaev, who played the role of Vereshchagin, with whom they were familiar before. He was fascinated by Tatiana and told the director that he would not be filming without her, and Vladimir Motyl personally came to the actress's home to offer her a role. Tatiana Tkach told: "".
She became the only one who had a very successful acting career - Tatiana played more than 70 film roles and became a People's Artist of the Russian Federation. Most of all, Tkach was remembered by the audience in the image of Fox's girlfriend from the movie "The Meeting Place Cannot Be Changed".
Tatiana Kuzmina
One of the brightest and most memorable roles - Gulchatay - went to Tatyana Kuzmina, a student of the Leningrad Choreographic School named after I. Vaganova. She got to the shooting of the last one - another actress, Tatyana Denisova, had already been filming in this role for 4 months, but she suddenly refused to act, and they found a replacement for her.
It was she who was destined to become a national favorite, but Tatyana Kuzmina did not act in films anymore: The only role of Gulchatay.
