An exhibition has been opened in the Moscow Manege, which presents the creations of realist artists who are graduates of the Russian Academy of Sculpture, Painting and Architecture. This exhibition could not have taken place, because it became a serious stumbling block between federal and Moscow officials responsible for culture.
Back in April of this year, Ilya Glazunov, who is the rector of the Academy, People's Artist, submitted for consideration the question that Sergei Kapkov, who holds the post of the Moscow head of the Department of Culture, decided to refuse to hold an exhibition of works by young artists.
According to the rector, the obstacle to the exhibition of works by graduates of the Academy, in which the great personalities V. Serov, A. Vasnetsov, K. Korovin, I. Levitan, A. Savrasov and others studied, is an attempt on the holy. The news quickly spread through the media and the public became aware of the scandal that had taken place.
The scandal turned out to be significant, but they still managed to hush it up. Matvienko personally talked with Kapkov and they came to the decision to hold an exhibition of young artists this year. And now its opening has already taken place.
The official website denied the obstacle to the exhibition by Kapkov. It said that by the time Glazunov applied for this event, the plan in the Manege had been fully completed, and therefore there was nowhere to insert an exhibition of realist artists. According to the Department of Culture, speculation on the plight of Russian realism is unnecessary, and Glazkov uses it constantly.
Now Glazunov has a personal gallery, which receives full funding from the city budget. This year, they are going to open the Glazunov House-Museum, which will house furniture, icons and paintings collected by the artist himself. Many have come to the conclusion that Glazunov worries not so much for all realists as for his own graduates.
Despite all the misunderstandings, during the opening of the exhibition, all the individuals involved in organizing the event were able to make peace with each other.
Anyone can visit the art exhibition in the Manege, because the entrance is free. Quite a number of works are displayed in quiet, spacious rooms, some of which are truly impressive.
