Looking at the world through stained glass: Israeli artist creates paintings in a unique technique

Each artist has his own concept of creativity. Someone is close to academic painting and classicism, and someone relies on primitivism or abstractionism, while others win hearts with their own findings in technical and artistic techniques. Today we are acquainting readers with the work of a modern master of painting with a unique style that cannot be confused with any other. And so, meet - a contemporary Israeli artist Nathan Brutsky.

In each of his work, Nathan identifies two of the most important aspects for himself. Firstly, it is the power of artistic expression, unique style, technique and amazing quality, and secondly, art should give people positive emotions and satisfaction.

Considering the artist's work throughout his career, one can clearly trace the search for a unique style, which he has been pursuing for many years, carefully polishing every stroke and manner of writing. The artistic style of the author is difficult to attribute to any particular direction in painting. Modern, figurative abstractionism, primitivism, expressionism - the master took a little of everything from these directions and created his own colorful fireworks from stylish images frozen in the dynamics of movement.

With the help of various displacements, exaggerations and simplifications of pictorial forms and, of course, flowing light, the artist makes the viewer feel as if he is seeing what is happening through a stained-glass window. Many will note that it looks very uniform and monotonous, maybe so, but you must admit that it is still very original.

The main theme of the master's paintings is jazz music, expressive dance, and also club scenes, where we see graceful ladies and gentlemen talking under a cup of coffee and playing entertaining games. Nathan also writes stylish still lifes that delight the viewer with the pretentiousness and grace of forms, and seascapes, on which large and small ships, sailing yachts are an obligatory attribute, in a word, where the artist's violent imagination can roam.

Nathan Brutsky literally caught that geometric pattern, which, thanks to the refractive light penetrating through the edges of the glass, creates a unique illusion. Having developed his technique based on such refractions of lighting, using many repetitions and figurative generalizations, the author creates three-dimensional canvases in texture, saturated with a holiday atmosphere, using a palette knife and oil paints.

Thanks to this author's technique, his paintings are filled with romance, and where music sounds in them, you feel its rhythm. The heroines of his compositions are refined, graceful and temperamental in dance, their gentlemen are passionate and courageous. The color scheme is mesmerizing with its saturation and contrast. So, all the details, objects and images, as well as music, dance, jazz and light in the master's paintings, are created in one color scheme, which only emphasizes the artist's style.

For the sake of fairness, it should be noted that thousands of sketches made by the artist served as lessons in skill. For a good ten years, Nathan did not let go of the tiny sketchbook and pencils. The habit from childhood and hard work did their job - the style was found, it is individual, it is subtly similar to someone - but this circumstance concerns everyone in contemporary art, without the slightest exception.

A little about the author

Nathan Brutsky was born in 1963 in Kiev. Since childhood, he was fond of various types of arts: painting, sculpture, art design. He was a 10-year-old boy when his father, a man well versed in art, saw great inclinations in his son. It was he who convinced Nathan to take painting seriously, to devote at least 2-3 hours daily to it.

The fate of Brutsky Jr. was a foregone conclusion - he began to comprehend the basics of fine art at an art school. The talented boy drew everything he saw, without distinction, and it was rarely possible to see him without pencil and paper. This rich experience proved to be very important when, years later, Nathan began to create complex compositions, with many elements.

Subsequently, Nathan graduated from an art school and the Kiev College of Industrial Design. After serving in the army, he worked as a graphic and architectural designer, book illustrator.

For several years, Nathan's main business was the interior design of synagogues and private residences, where he created amazing stained glass windows, lamps and frescoes. Later, painting became the main part of his life. He realized that only she brings him real joy and pleasure, that only in painting can he realize his creative projects.

From his student days, distinguished by a deep understanding of artistic styles and trends, Nathan took up a deeper study of Western European art, further using this knowledge in his works. The result of the search for their own "I" was the creation of the author's unique style, which successfully combined the achievements of many European artists of the first quarter of the 20th century, as well as some elements of various trends in contemporary art.

In 1991, Brutsky's family moved to Israel, where the artist began to regularly participate in numerous group and personal exhibitions. His works were noticed very soon and were in great demand among collectors around the world.

Nathan Brutsky is now an Israeli artist and lives and works in Tel Aviv.
