Unfortunately, our desires do not always coincide with our capabilities. But what to do when you really want to? The answer to this question is exactly what is revealed to us in a series of photographs with the title Fake Holidays photo artist Reiner Riedler.
As we already know, anything can be fake, even Mona Lisa, which was created from precious stones by a Chinese craftsman. However, as the example of the above picture shows, “fake” does not mean “bad”.
Take vacations and vacations, for example. Many of us are not averse to going to them somewhere in a distant exotic country, but we only have money for the train to get to the dacha. Therefore, we have to use the resources available to us to the maximum and use our imagination at the same time.
Photo artist Rainer Riedler tells the audience about this in the series of works Fake Holidays. They depict people resting near famous world objects: St. Basil's Cathedral, the American Capitol, the Egyptian and Mexican pyramids, the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame Cathedral, the Athenian Parthenon, etc.
But all these objects are not real. Some are part of theme parks, some are cafes, restaurants or hotels, some are just replicas designed to attract tourists or for beauty.
Rainer Riedler himself explains the meaning of his works: “When the fulfillment of desires is out of reach, modeling takes over them, taking over our rest and leisure. Imaginary worlds are created (often with tremendous technical effort) in order to offer us an accessible version of the original. While the quality of adventure can be highly questionable, it is still based on the aspirations and dreams that lie in people's daily lives."
