It's no secret that we love many artists not so much for the beauty of their work as for the opportunity to think and be surprised. Romanian artist Mircea Cantor realizes himself in this regard one hundred percent: his works are vicious circles and logical traps, be it his two-headed matches or photographs of a child cutting a stream of water with scissors.
Romania is a frightening and incomprehensible country for many of us. Many associate her with vampires. It is unlikely that we know at least one famous Romanian artist. The country itself was mentioned in two materials on our website - in the article "What stereotypes look like" about the graphic works of Yanko Tsvetkov, dedicated to the ideas of some countries about others, and in the article "The most gigantic statues carved in the rocks”, according to which Romania has the largest such statue in Europe. Well, now we know for sure one incredible Romanian artist.
Mircea Cantor was born in Romania in 1977. According to himself, he now lives and works on Earth. Known primarily for his sophisticated vision of the problems of the modern world, to which all its diverse, devoid of logic work. Among the problems the artist addresses are the issues of globalization, its pros and cons.
It is difficult to imagine a more versatile artist than Mircea Cantor. He worked with concrete, clay, household waste, metal, wood, gold, bottles from under something there, took photos, made films, something related to sound, just drew. In addition, he is the brightest representative of the so-called “finished” art (found art) - art in which things that, at first glance, have nothing to do with art are used to create artistic compositions. With the help of this very finished art, often devoid of logicMircea Cantor brings out the ambiguity of everyday life and how many different cultures overlap.
Each of his works is capable of puzzling, some of them just boil their heads. For example, from the project "In the Footsteps of Happiness", which is vicious circle sex-sweeping women, or his work from five years ago, in which he placed a wolf and a deer in the same environment. It is interesting to think about the topics touched upon by the artist, and even if his work is not always something beautiful, he knows how to show something new with each of his work, without going beyond what is permitted (no matter how radical his work is, there is nothing disgusting about them.
And of course, all the work of Mircea Cantor can be appreciated on his website.

Oscar Wilde's vicious passion and "The Picture of Dorian Gray", which became the most famous and unsuccessful novel of the writer
The name Wilde translated from English means "irrepressible, ardent, passionate." Such was this mysterious writer. Always with a live flower in his buttonhole, in breathtaking outfits, handsome and talented. He was called "the prince of the aesthetes". And he did not hesitate to talk about his genius
A decadent esthete with vicious passions who conquered the world with one novel. Oscar Wilde
It happens that poets and writers go down in history not only (or not so much) because of their works, but because of the way of life they lead. Some of the literary geniuses in life had the brightest love stories, others have romantic stories, and still others have become famous for their vices and a riotous lifestyle. But there was one person who had all of the above in his life. Oscar Wilde. The life of this Irishman was full of vicious passions and decadent hobbies, he loved luxury and risk
Forest Spirit - Plant Spirit. Reflection of the God of Nature in the works of various authors
In Western furry culture (the art of depicting anthropomorphic animals) I have long observed one interesting tendency - some images created by one author become, as it were, the public domain, they are drawn by many. This could be called fan art, but fan art is usually created based on world famous works, and here they are just separate images created by a talented person and picked up by other talented authors. In this collection I want to introduce you to the spirit
Sculptural installations from various rubbish. Works by Sayaka Ganz
Broken plastic hangers, bent forks and spoons, used plastic dishes … Who keeps such trash if it must be immediately sent to the trash heap? And who throws it away, the artist Sayaka Ganz, whose sculptural installations just consist of just such rubbish, may ask with the same bewilderment
Courtesans, Odalisques, Changsan: What fate awaited the "vicious ladies of the half-world" in different countries
From time immemorial it has developed that rich aristocrats and other representatives of the nobility did not deny themselves the pleasure of spending time with a beautiful and seductive girl. In the West or the East, there was little difference. Only in Europe they were called courtesans, in China - Changsan, and in the harems of the sultans - odalisques
