New photo project Leland Bobbe "Half-Drag" was perceived by the public very ambiguously. This is not surprising, because all the models taking part in it are transvestites, and the attitude of people towards such men sometimes borders on extremes. Perhaps that is why the idea of creating such a project attracted the photographer. The main highlight of the pictures is that the faces of the models are only half made up, and sometimes very attractive men are hidden under a layer of makeup.
We all know that art is a multifaceted phenomenon, we like some of its manifestations, and some we do not understand or deny their artistic value. The transvestite show is one such facet. Someone is ready to pay any money just to get to a performance with the participation of their favorite artist, while someone is upset by the very fact of the existence of transvestism. Perhaps the views of people are so different due to the fact that all images of transvestites are different and there is no template. Some of them dress up because they feel like women (a symptom of gender dysphoria), for others it is an art of transformation, and someone pursues a completely mundane goal - to make money.
The idea for the photo project was born when Leland Bobb saw the transvestite artists participating in a burlesque show: he was interested in how these people would look without makeup. Some of the artists agreed to take part in the Half-Drag project, but there were also those who wanted to remain incognito. The American photographer was so carried away by this idea that he decided not to stop and continue the photo project. Moreover, he searches for his models through Facebook, and now every month new portraits of New York transvestites appear on his website.
