The photo session lasted for three days: Bert and Marilyn were looking for new ideas for filming, choosing images, choosing the most successful pictures and deleting the unsuitable ones. By this time, the actress was at the peak of popularity and a very influential person in her field, so not a single picture was printed without her permission. During these few days, in July 1962, the photographer and the actress found a common language: the working atmosphere often became just a friendly conversation. Marilyn was showing her new home, which she had just purchased, so most of the rooms were empty. “She explained what furniture she ordered and what and where she wants to put! She shared her plans for the future, oddly enough, not related to cinema. I can’t believe that then she was thinking about suicide”- Bert Stern admitted in an interview. Less than a month later, the actress was found dead in her bed. Disputes about whether it was a suicide, or in this way one of the influential "friends" silenced the actress, is still going on …
During the filming, almost two and a half thousand frames were taken. Of course, there are only a few dozen high-quality photos approved by the actress. In the pictures, the 36-year-old actress looks thinner than usual. The reason for this was the operation on the pancreas, which Marilyn had undergone a few weeks before the photo session. The scar on her stomach testifies to her, which the actress was embarrassed about and asked to be retouched in the pictures.
It is known that at first only one photo session was planned, but after seeing the first pictures, the editors of the magazine decided to expand the topic and show readers as many as eight pages with Marilyn's photographs. It is noteworthy that until this moment on the pages of Vogue there was not a single line about the popular actress. This article and photos were supposed to be the beginning of a new stage in the career of Marilyn Monroe.
