For a long time, the famous writer Paulo Coelho has been preparing a new book for publication. The work was intended for a children's audience and was co-written with the famous American basketball player Kobe Bryant. But in late January, in an interview with The Associated Press, Paulo Coelho announced that he destroyed the draft of the book. And he categorically refused to consider the issue of putting the work into print.
Basketball player Kobe Bryant has been a fan of Paulo Coelho's talent for many years, especially his spiritual fable "The Alchemist". In August 2019, the NBA legend shared with the novelist his desire to write a children's book together, and Paulo Coelho strongly supported Bryant.
If the book was in demand, it could be the beginning of a whole series of works for children. It was assumed that the new book was to intertwine sport and magic. Paulo Coelho and Kobe Bryant conceived a children's romance so that poor and disadvantaged children can see how sports, hard work and determination can help them overcome adversity. According to the co-authors, the book should have given hope to all children.
Kobe Bryant, during one of his interviews, said that he had an idea for a work, a ready plot and its development. He knew where to start the book and how the characters' adventures would end. Through his multimedia company Granity Studios, the basketball player interacted with various writers. But the last project was especially important to him. Bryant admitted that working with Paulo Coelho would make the work a thousand times better than if he decided to write and publish the book on his own.
The co-authors worked slowly, trying to create a literary work that would be interesting to the younger generation. Children should have felt the urge to move forward after reading, regardless of social or financial situation. The basketball player paid special attention to making the book a positive example for children around the world.
Kobe Bryant himself began his sports career during his school years, and after receiving secondary education he began to play in the NBA, having achieved incredible success in basketball. He has 5 league titles, two Olympic medals and four all-star match awards. He never stopped there and always strived for new heights.
After retiring from the NBA, he directed the animated film Dear Basketball, which won the professional basketball an Oscar in 2018. His life itself could serve as an example of perseverance and determination.
But at the end of January 2020, Kobe Bryant's personal helicopter, in which he was with his 13-year-old daughter Gianna and seven other friends of his family, crashed in Calabasa, California. All passengers were killed.
The tragedy happened on January 26, and two days later, Paulo Coelho announced his intention to destroy the drafts of the book, which was co-authored with the legendary basketball player.
As the writer said, Bryant wanted the book to show all disadvantaged children an example of how they can overcome adversity through sports. But without the legendary co-author, the work loses all meaning, and therefore there is no reason to complete this project without its ideological inspirer and its driving force.
Paulo Coelho did not agree with the arguments of the fans of the tragically deceased basketball player, who persuaded the writer to finish the book in memory of Kobe Bryant. At the same time, the novelist is convinced that the phenomenon and creative legacy of the legendary basketball player has yet to be studied by future generations.
Communication with Bryant convinced Coelho that the athlete has a lot of ideas related to different areas of life. He was a very versatile person, and his talents extended far beyond basketball.
Paulo Coelho noted that he himself learned a lot while working with Kobe Bryant. At the same time, the writer announced his intention to write a book about the lessons he learned from communicating with the basketball legend and a man of great soul. Nowadays it is necessary to survive the loss and study the legacy left by Kobe Bryant.
Paulo Coelho is one of the most widely read authors on Earth. Appointed as an advisor to UNESCO, he took care of overcoming the difficulties facing the African continent. He received the highest reviews and international awards, and in 1996 the Minister of Culture of France awarded him the title of Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters. He is also a rebel who always went against the established canons.

Such a letter looks like some kind of cipher, and indeed, it takes some effort to read it. But the sender did not pursue the goal of confusing the recipient of the correspondence. And you shouldn't blame him for untidiness: the reason why the letter was written crosswise is rather sympathetic, even if it is known that Jane Austen and Charles Darwin once resorted to this method, being perfectly aware of the fact that they are violating some rules of etiquette
