"Fyodor Mikhailovich became my god, my idol, and I, it seems, was ready to kneel before him all my life," she wrote Anna Snitkina about your husband Fyodor Dostoevsky … A simple assistant stenographer became for the outstanding Russian writer not only an assistant, but also a muse, beloved, faithful wife. Widowed at 35, Anna never married again, remaining faithful to her youthful love.
When Fyodor Dostoevsky first met Anna, the girl was only 20 years old. For her, the meeting with the literary idol became an epoch-making event: after completing stenography courses, she received an offer from him to take part in the creation of the novel The Gambler. The writing marathon took 26 days, he had exactly that much time to complete the manuscript. The cost of the issue was high: if it was not possible to finish the novel on time, then the publisher Stellovsky would have the right to dispose of the entire creative heritage of the writer within 9 years. An onerous contract forced Dostoevsky to find a stenographer to help him, and this meeting became a landmark for both.
Working with Dostoevsky, Anna quickly realized that she was in love with the writer. Dostoevsky was 24 years older than her, and, as often happens, the girl was the first to confess her feelings. Once, while working on the chapter of the novel, Dostoevsky invited her to imagine herself in the place of the heroine, who had heard the recognition from the artist. In response, Anna said that if it were so, she would have assured him that the feeling is mutual. This scene became decisive, the lovers finally confessed to themselves their emotions.
Soon the couple got married, Anna became a loving wife, who put a lot of effort into raising three children, took on household chores, even managed to manage financial affairs, since Dostoevsky was close to bankruptcy. Perhaps her main merit was that she helped her husband overcome gambling addiction. Losing everything to the last thread, Dostoevsky managed to stop playing, despite the fact that he had been obsessed with cards and roulette for 10 years.
Dostoevsky's marriage with Anna lasted 15 years. Widowed at 35, Anna Snitkina remained faithful to her husband's memory forever, and no longer built relationships. Anna Snitkina-Dostoevskaya passed away at the age of 71, she devoted her life to preserving the memory of her brilliant husband for posterity. After her death, she was buried in St. Petersburg next to her husband.
