On Wednesday 31 July, Vladimir Medinsky, the Russian Minister of Culture, spoke about his desire to create a cinema lecture complex in Sevastopol. It was decided to use the former cinema "Ukraine" as a place for its creation. The new complex will mostly show good Russian cinema.
During his speech, the Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation said that they would like to turn the old cinema "Ukraine", which is located in Sevastopol, into a luxury cinema complex. This complex can be the best in Sevastopol, and possibly on the entire Crimean peninsula. In the new complex, it is planned for the most part to hold screenings of Russian films. Vladimir Medinsky spoke about such plans during a meeting, during which they discussed issues on the development of the Sevastopol military-historical museum-reserve and a museum-reserve called “Tauric Chersonesos”.
In the renovated Sevastopol cinema-lecture complex in the daytime it is planned to hold screenings of old military-historical films. Interestingly, all of these sessions will be free. Also, daytime hours will be used for lectures prepared by museum workers. But in the evening hours, this complex will already work as a commercial cinema, but even at this time, preference will be given to showing good Russian films.
The building of the cinema with the name "Ukraine" is located on the territory of the historical part of Sevastopol, on one of the oldest streets of this city, the development of which began immediately after its foundation in 1783. This is an old building that was built back in 1955. Engineer Avrutin took part in the construction of the cinema.
The author of the project is the architect Z. O. Brod, who decided to give preference to the strict forms of Empire and Classicism. This cinema was opened in 1955 on November 20. It is listed as an architectural monument. Not so long ago, or rather in 2015, the building of the cinema was included in the list of cultural heritage sites of federal significance. At the moment, this building is a modern center, which houses the Cultural and Exhibition Center of the State Museum of the Heroic Defense and Liberation of Sevastopol.
