Some dog shelters are not only trying to find a new home for their pets, but also choosing the right owners for them. It may seem like overkill if you don't know what stories sometimes happen. So, with a difference of four months, two different dogs found their home and returned back to the shelter with one for the same reason - "The dog is too good."

The first story happened to a homeless 4-year-old dog named Helena. A man took her to a private house, and the workers of the shelter were very happy for the successful fate of the dog. However, after a month the man brought the dog back and with the words "This dog is too kind for me" left Helena to live in the shelter again.

“It was obvious that this man was looking for a guard dog,” says Karen, a representative of the shelter. “He even said that it would be better to give this dog to some woman, … because they like all these caresses and tenderness more.”

To say that the shelter workers were dumbfounded is to say nothing. An absolutely beautiful dog, without signs of anxiety, behaves decently, knows the commands. “I think this man took Helena simply because he thought all pit bulls were evil and aggressive. And she is truly calm and cheerful, one of those dogs that will lie next to you while you watch a movie on TV, and put her tummy to scratch or lick you."

And almost the same story happened with a dog named Binks. He was returned even faster - in just two days, but for the same reason - "too smart and too good." “Binks was picked up after a special evening organized for those wishing to acquire a pet. There were hundreds of other dogs in the room, and Binks was calm and friendly. One family liked him, they stayed with him for a little while and then we signed documents so that they would immediately take him to his new home."

The dog was returned without meeting personally with the staff of the shelter - they simply brought the dog with a note attached to it. “The note said that he knows the commands very well, is able to sit and give a paw on command, only goes to the toilet on the street, behaves well with children and other dogs,” says the employee of the shelter. "And it said that Binks was too good for them because they wanted someone else to teach, so they changed their minds and decided to take the puppy."

So finding out whether the new owners and the pet are really suitable for each other is by no means superfluous. As life shows, for some people even good dogs are “too good” and therefore not suitable.

It is also worth remembering the story about which we recently told - then an unknown person brought a tortured animal with dreadlocks to the shelter. The animal was so tortured, and its appearance was neglected, that the workers did not immediately recognized him as a cat.
