Either it is unpleasant for the Yolasweinar themselves, or it is a pity for the children.

In the courtyards, you can often see tiny houses and chapels. They are set up especially for trolls. So they hope to accustom them to the Christian faith, but it is somehow awkward - the country has been a Christian for a long time.

By the way, the inhabitants of Iceland freely read Old Norse texts from pre-Christian times. Their language has hardly changed since then. Relative isolation saved him from the active penetration of borrowings, and in general, cautious, traditionally distrustful of the new Icelanders prefer to invent their own word for any novelty from overseas or any new idea.

Ever since the days of the Vikings, a favorite delicacy here is skyr, a cross between yogurt and cheese. There is almost no fat in it, it is slightly sweet, sour and delights the inhabitants of the continent when they manage to taste it. Skir is eaten just like that, put in porridge one to one, jam is added to make a dessert, served with fish for dinner or with cereal for breakfast.

Icelanders are generally very traditional in food. They eat local beautiful puffin birds, cod in almost any form, lamb, the meat of their special Icelandic horses, oats and barley. This diet has not changed for centuries.

It seems that there is no more traditional country in Europe. But ordinary European lovers of tradition will not understand here. With all the great love of the Icelanders for their native country, its history and customs, for the language and landscapes familiar from childhood, there are not so many among them who consider the past to be sinless and impeccable. In poorly populated Iceland, the main value is a person, and by and large everything is done here for a person, and not for abstract tradition.

Era of mercy

Socialists in the twentieth century dreamed that years of “necessary cruelty” would pass and an era of mercy would come. When it never occurs to anyone to belittle human dignity. When cruelty is unacceptable, injustice is declared savagery, one person will not have to endure the torment due to the indifference of many. These dreamers would love a lot about Iceland - apart from the prices, of course. The prices here are non-socialist.

Here, for the first time in the world, a woman was elected president - Vigdis Finnbogadouttir. And now a woman is the prime minister, and she is not the first in her post. Here it would never occur to a man in women's clothing to be horrified, but strip clubs are legally prohibited: studies show that these establishments are often associated with human traffic, that is, the slave trade, and there are many girls from Eastern Europe among those involved in sexual slavery, so it protects the law is more of our citizens than Icelandic.

There is generally zero tolerance for violence. The outlook on life, which for many modern Russians is a sign of decay, has led to the fact that there is no constant criminal chronicle in the local press. (And this despite the Icelanders' love of booze.) The worst crime is car theft. Then the hijacker will leave the car somewhere, and the police will return it. There are also scandals with bribes.

Due to the lack of cases, the Icelandic police, by the way, leads the cutest Instagram in the world, and empty prison cells are sometimes rented out to tourists as numbers. Fortunately, they are equipped no worse than hotel apartments, albeit not the most luxurious.

When a person disappears in Iceland, the whole country goes out to look for him. Yes, this country is small, its population is not the largest Russian city. But can you imagine a whole city going out to look for a missing, possibly murdered girl? First, who needs it. Secondly, crimes are too common for Russians. They don't change the course of life.

Of course, a tough immigration policy affects the crime rate. Everyone who wants to obtain citizenship should properly understand all the main values of Iceland. Human life. Human dignity. Physical and sexual inviolability. There will be no concessions for Europeans before Muslims or Africans. Icelanders have the Internet and access to crime statistics and crime news from other countries. For them, almost all visitors are people from countries where it is normal for many to beat a woman “because she brought it”, ask about the murdered man why he was killed, and look for excuses for their rudeness and aggression in the fact that the other person is not like you …

If you have doubts about how you feel about another's right to life, love and integrity, you will never find a job in Iceland and very soon you will stop finding a place to rent. It is almost impossible to obtain citizenship without long work in the country, and you can't spend the night on the street - it's chilly.

Here, anyone can consult the national database for free to find out how closely they are related to any other Icelander. Because there is necessarily a relationship. If you ask a resident of Reykjavik if Bjork is his cousin, he will honestly answer: yes, distant.

Every house here is heated with water from geysers, and the same water heats the sidewalks and pavements so that the snow melts on them. Here, every mother is sure that she will not die of hunger, that her child will receive a place in a kindergarten and, in any circumstances, a good school education. Here, everyone reads four books a year, and many also write them. There are excellent clinics and doctors.

Iceland is like heaven, but it owes much of it to the fact that it is almost in hell. Although, thanks to the Gulf Stream, winters here are very mild, but the polar night lasts all winter, the polar day does not let sleep in summer, and it is difficult to remember when the last time the temperature rose above fifteen degrees. If the living conditions were better here, and neighbors would constantly crawl here with their interests. And so Icelanders don't even have neighbors. That for a real Scandinavian is just happiness and a guarantee of comfort.
