The story of the passionate love of the pilot and writer Antoine de Saint-Exupery and the eccentric beauty Consuelo Gomez Carrillo is a vivid example of how fate sometimes brings opposites that, it would seem, simply cannot be together. No one even thought that a bright and talented favorite of women would marry an eccentric twice widow and forget about other women forever.
Not just a kiss
Being an extraordinary person, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry was in no hurry to start a family with any of his many passions, did not seek to lose freedom and the opportunity to constantly be at the peak of passions, diving from one fleeting romance to another. Meeting with Consuelo forced to stop the rotation of this crazy wheel. It was this woman who seemed to Saint-Exupery the focus of all his desires. There are several versions of Antoine and Consuelo's acquaintance, but the most common story in the writer's biography is the story of a kiss in the sky.
In 1930, in Buenos Eros, the brown-eyed beauty Consuelo did not even suspect how the invitation to join a young pilot in the cockpit would end, who said that she must kiss him in the sky if she wanted to return to earth. The passion that flared up between them after the first meeting made de Saint-Exupery forget about his past romances. If Antoine never tied the knot before meeting Consuelo, then the fatal beauty managed to be married twice. And already seven days after meeting Antoine, she received another marriage proposal and answered it with consent.
Descendant of a noble family
Antoine de Saint-Exupery was a descendant of a famous French noble family. The family had five children, and Antoine was often left to his own devices. This may have made him freedom-loving and intolerant of restrictions. To continue his education, he went to Paris, where he met his first love, as extraordinary as the future creator of The Little Prince himself was extraordinary. Louise, that was the name of the first conqueror of his heart, was weak in health, but unusually beautiful. No matter how hard he tried to prove his love to the young de Saint-Exupery, the girl's parents married her off to another.
As Antoine would later write in his memoirs, this parting contributed to the choice of his future profession - to be a pilot and be in the sky, because nothing held him on earth. Having become a pilot, Exupery remained true to his impulsive nature, crashing the plane, getting injured and forgetting about flying for a while. But the time without a helm passed, and Antoine again continued his career as a pilot. In parallel, Antoine de Saint-Exupery tries to write. His works are so sublime, and the syllable is so refined that the image of a romantic is created.
An extraordinary dreamer
Miniature, fast and temperamental Consuelo Gomez Carrillo, according to the memoirs of contemporaries, was an incredible inventor. Originally from El Salvador, she told about herself that she was from a noble Spanish family, but this was hardly true. Consuelo was not interested in living in reality, and fictional reality seemed to her something attractive. The thirst for new experiences and adventures pushed her to fantasies.
A violent temperament was the cause of outbursts of anger and irritability. The first husband loved Consuelo so much that he inspired her with the idea of her exclusivity, taught her how to dress and behave in a secular society. His suicide gave rise to rumors that, with her violent nature, Consuelo pushed her husband to this terrible act.
When Consuelo met Saint-Exupery, her financial situation left much to be desired, and Antoine's marriage proposal came in handy. Despite the protests of friends, Exupery marries his eccentric darling.
I can not be with you and be without you
Their marriage was the same as themselves - bright, extraordinary and passionate. Living permanently in different cities, without a constant income, they could throw a gorgeous party for friends, or practically starve, huddling in a modest apartment. But the material side of life did not particularly bother them, they were absorbed in communication with each other. Consuelo's impulsiveness led to frequent scandals, she sometimes left home, and her husband had to look for her at night. But he forgave everything in her, because in her there was that combination of lightness and a complete lack of interest in everyday problems, which Exupery seemed to be philistine. There was no doubt - this woman won his heart forever.
At first, their relationship was free, and both indulged in betrayal. But soon Antoine, and then Consuelo, could not stand the torment of jealousy, and it was decided to end his free life. Her exactingness and often inexplicable actions made Exupery think about parting more than once, but each time he returned to prick her thorns again. It is to her that the image of Rose in "The Little Prince" is dedicated - attractive, but so dangerous.
The pilot-writer did not return from a flight in 1944. Consuelo, not resigned to the fact that her husband was no longer there, wrote him letters, assuring him that at night he could hear his steps and breathing. Someone believed that de Saint-Exupery ruined his life by marrying Consuelo, while others are sure that it was only thanks to this unusual woman that the talent of the writer Exupery was revealed.
But the real feeling that connected Antoine and Consuelo is that no one undertakes to dispute. After all, only a loving man could write: "When I see lights in the distance, I know that it is my Consuelo calling me."
Of great interest is the story of another great writer - the love story of Gabriel Marquez and Mercedes Barga.
