At first glance, the paintings that the Vietnamese artist paints Huy Lam, resemble the most common portraits painted with pastels or colored pencils. But one has only to approach them at arm's length, as you will immediately see what is the peculiarity of this artist's work. Marilyn Monroe, Che Guevare, Van Gogh, Darth Vader and other paintings are not drawn with pencils at all, they consist of hundreds of thousands colorful words … Many of us in literature lessons had to create verbal portraits of certain characters, or even objects, events or natural phenomena. This is approximately what the Vietnamese artist is doing, but his characters of his verbal creativity can not only be "read" but also seen. Although, in fact, there is nothing special to read: each picture consists of one or two words that are most suitable for it, multiplied and painted in the appropriate colors.
Hui Lama's verbal portraits are drawn on the computer. Each word is a separate brush, but for some portraits it took dozens of them. So, for example, for a portrait of Van Gogh, the artist needed 42 brushes with the word "Genius" and about 40 hours of work. By the way, Hui Lam still calls this painting his favorite work, although it is not the most difficult one - the portrait of Marilyn Monroe took 65 hours of working time. By the way, the numbers "36-24-37", with which Marilyn is drawn, are her parameters in inches.
Portrait of Commandant Che Guevare from the words "Bought a shirt", Darth Vader from the words "Not my father", popular McDonald's treats, many hundreds of times telling from pictures, how many calories they contain - all these and other amazing word pictures can be seen on the artist Huy Lam's website.
