When Rachel, 39, and Cody, 32, were told they would have twins, they were just happy. True, the second news, which was reported to them at the ultrasound, greatly alarmed the spouses: the girls have a heart defect, which means that they will need an operation. But the fact that the babies most likely have Down syndrome did not bother their parents at all. Ever since the girls were born, Rachel Prescott from Oregon has never ceased to thank God for sending her such adorable daughters, and her blog on the social network dedicated to the life of "solar twins" is gaining more and more fans all over the world. …
At that time, the Prescott couple already had two preschool sons, but the couple really wanted a third child. Rachel prayed fervently day in and day out, and Cody canceled a previously planned vasectomy.
- After seeing the positive results of pregnancy tests, I burst into tears of gratitude, fondly remembering my past pregnancies and the opportunity to relive these precious moments. I was eager to enjoy every familiar step on the way to meeting our already cherished child, - recalls Rachel.
When the results of Doppler ultrasonography showed a multi-part pregnancy, Rachel and her husband were delighted. Two children? This will require some serious adjustments in the lifestyle, one more car seat will be needed, but otherwise it is even great, because the family was rather big - four people and a dog. The results of the second ultrasound were not so optimistic: the doctors were forced to inform the parents that both girls have congenital heart disease, and, according to forecasts, they will need open heart surgery immediately after birth. In addition, there is a high probability that babies have Down syndrome.
- We excitedly plunged into everything that is associated with this phrase - "Down syndrome". We watched all kinds of TV shows, studied future summer camps for such children. During my long sleepless nights, I read book after book on Down syndrome, and I became more and more sad about what was written there: every literary work was a variation on the theme: grief, struggle for inclusion in society, social and family problems and all kinds of medical complications, - recalls Rachel, - In a short time, I realized that in our seemingly progressive society, human rights and psychological support for people with Down syndrome, at best, are primitive, but by and large they simply do not exist.
As Rachel assures, life after the birth of girls did not at all become the nightmare that others around them frightened them with. Firstly, only one of the babies ended up with a heart defect. At the age of six months, she successfully underwent surgery.
And secondly, adorable daughters, whom their parents named Annette and Charlotte, brought the family so much happiness that Rachel simply could not help but share it with the whole world. Her blog on the social network is replete with photos of charming babes, when looking at which it is impossible to restrain a smile.
"They are really the most beautiful!", "Two dolls", "Your twins are gorgeous", "This photo melted my heart" - users from all over the world write to Rachel.
The "mom of downsizing twins", as Prescott calls herself on the blog, has tens of thousands of subscribers, and every day the number of Anette and Charlotte's fans is growing.
The photos and videos show how active and emotionally fulfilling their lives are mom, dad, twins and their older brothers. The family travels, attends holidays, visits. Little girls are interested in learning about the world, love to play with their big dog and, according to Rachel, are only slightly behind in development from their peers. And in all the photos, the faces of the parents shine with happiness.
- My daughters continue to touch the hearts of other people, making me tremble. I receive letters from parents who, after reading our story and seeing their infectious smiles, experienced an emotional transition from fear to hope, - says the mother of "sunny girls". - Babies teach us a lot: future parents, teachers, medical workers and so on. With the birth of our beautiful twin daughters, my husband and I have discovered a new level of joy and passion in our own lives. Inspired, we strive to erase any negative perceptions about Down Syndrome and translate the fear and grief of others into delight and joy. Anette and Charlotte have amazing beauty, and we are eager to share it with the world!
