In the studio of an American artist Vincent Tomczyk you should be extremely careful. Do not touch the things you like, do not take books in your hands, do not sit on chairs and benches, because the next minute all this can break and fall apart right in front of your eyes. Still, paper is a very fragile material, especially if you don't know how to handle it. Vincent Tomczyk - he knows, that's why he does all these tricks, creating pieces of furniture, accessories, clothes and others from different types of paper original sculptures … Despite the fact that all of Tomczyk's paper sculptures can be attributed to hyper-realism, he does not believe that they look real. The author claims that his work is just a reconstruction, which became possible due to the fact that he daily interacts with those objects that he reproduces from paper. To draw an ideal portrait, you should communicate with a person for some time, imbued with his feelings, find out how he lives and how he thinks. If we are talking about sculptures, one should penetrate into the essence of these things, see them from the inside in the literal sense of the word. But no one has ever said that it is very easy to draw portraits, create installations and sculptures …
As an artist working mainly with paper, Vincent Tomczyk combines creativity with calculations, the art of a sculptor with engineering. At one time, his father taught him a lot, at whose factory Vincent Tomczyk spent a lot of time watching the work of master engineers. As a result, each sculptural object made of paper is the result of painstaking manual work, and all colors, patterns, ornaments and textures are applied to the surface of the sculptures by hand, without the use of digital printing.
In addition to paper sculptures, Vincent Tomczyk creates sculptures from other materials, as well as their various combinations. You can see these and other works of the sculptor on his website.
