Posing for a portrait is a real punishment. Infinitely long hours without movement are not easy for models. However, in the case of "models" by Karen Laurence-Rowe the situation is different: she draws wild animals from the African savannah, they certainly cannot be forced not only to pose, but to stand in one place. This does not sadden the artist herself - she manages to create masterpieces even in such extreme conditions.
Karen Lawrence-Rowe is one of the most famous documentary artists. The wildlife of Kenya is captured on her canvases: here you can find a couple of lions-hunters, and a wandering herd of elephants, and a group of giraffes lost in the endless sands of the desert. It is amazing, but Karen Lawrence-Rowe did not receive a special education, she comprehended all the wisdom on her own, which allowed her to develop a unique and recognizable style. In her works, there is an amazing harmony between the animals and the landscape around them. Natural tones literally "explode" the whiteness of the paper, highlighting the diversity of African fauna.
Karen Laurence Rowe experienced love for Africa since childhood, since she lived here all her life. The artist admits that the harsh beauty of Kenya won her heart with its unpredictability. Africa is changing rapidly, some species of animals, unfortunately, are disappearing, because Karen Laurence-Rowe sees her mission in capturing it in the form in which it still exists for future generations.
Perhaps the beauty and originality of Karen Lawrence-Rowe's paintings can only be compared with the heartfelt black-and-white photographs of African animals from Laurent Baheux.
