Every schoolgirl now knows how to weave baubles, wallets and necklaces from beads, and this skill is no longer considered an art - so, pampering. Well, most of the time. But when something truly exclusive and amazing is weaved from beads - this is the number! Remember Lisa Lou's dream kitchen, which the artist did for four years, spending 40 million beads on the work? That's where the real art is! And also - beaded sculptures by Kathy & Tom Wegman. Also works worthy of attention and admiration. This is a unique case when a man became interested in such an exclusively female occupation and achieved amazing results! Tom Wegman has been working with beads for ten years, and even his wife Katie is 5 years behind him. Working together, the couple showed excellent results, and proved that love only helps business, and business does not destroy relationships.
For the first time, they presented the results of their joint work in Washington, at the Smithson Craft Show, and since then they have had no end of orders and offers. By the way, every new product, even if it is not made to order, instantly finds a new owner and finds a place in a private collection.
Besides weaving sculptures, Katie and Thomas have a special passion. She is also associated with creativity: the family couple collects rare beads. So, they have such antiques as beads hand-made by the Indians, beads that Mexicans used in their folk art and other items that are not so easy to buy in a store.
Despite the fact that all beaded sculptures of family creativity are created in tandem, each master has his own style and handwriting. I think it will not be difficult to guess who is the author of an iron, toaster or a pair of sneakers, and whose hands are scooters, rollers and cars:)
