Video: Hyper-realistic wood sculptures by Tom Eckert

Works of a talented artist Tom Eckert from Arizona look like unremarkable compositions in photographs. However, it is worth mentioning that all objects are made of … wood, and then painted to achieve a more realistic effect.
Hyperrealism is a popular trend in contemporary painting and sculpture. Often, masters strive to create images or objects familiar to the eye from materials that are unusual for them. For example, we have already written about the sculptor Christopher David, whose ceramic products are indistinguishable from wooden ones. And Tom Eckert does exactly the opposite: from wood he manages to create sculptures that resemble paper, plastic, stone and even silk. Of course, the translucent flowing fabric is the pinnacle of Tom Eckert's skill.
For his work, the master uses soft tree species, often linden. Then he fixes the finished parts of the product and covers the sculpture with water-based paint. Tom Eckert's products look very natural, it is noteworthy that the works have been exhibited at all kinds of American exhibitions since 1966, and the master himself teaches at one of the universities in Arizona, transferring his skills to his students.
Tom Eckert admits that optical deceptions haunted him since childhood. One of the most vivid memories for him to this day remains a trip by car during a heavy rain, when the wet track seemed to the boy as something illusory, since it immediately disappeared under the wheels of a rushing car. Having started creating sculptures, Tom Eckert also wanted to play with the audience, deceive them, and mislead them with his works. Sculptures depicting books, maps, tree branches or stones covered with the finest silk on top are a visual trick that creates a sense of magic and a little miracle.

Paper sawn from wood. Sculptures by Randall Rosenthal
With a quick glance at the works of Randall Rosenthal, it is difficult to notice anything unusual about them. Newspapers, paper money, notepads, maps, diaries … It's hard to believe, but in fact there is not a single gram of paper in them: all these are sculptures that the author cut out from a solid piece of wood and then painted by hand
Rough wood sculptures depicting ordinary people
The most ordinary people carved in wood are a favorite theme of a modern German sculptor. The heroes of his works are made with minimal detail, are naked or wear unassuming clothes, and often stand just staring into space
Wood Art: Mathematical Wood Harmony Cha Jong-Rye
Wood art is a trend that was in vogue back in the era of stone axes. Wood still remains an indispensable material for works of art - and even such non-standard ones as living wooden sculpture. But when working with already sawn wood, not every artist will be able to fully use the natural wood texture, its rings and fibers. The way the Korean sculptor Cha Jong-Rye does it
Dream collages or collages-dreams of the artist Eleanor Wood (Eleanor Wood)
When we sleep, we always dream of something, or almost always. And our dreams are most often a reflection of our reality, or dreams. We are very worried about something or something very much, and this is always reflected in our dreams. And so the artist Eleanor Wood decided to fantasize what ordinary people, young and old, dream about in their dreams and presented the audience with a series of "dreamy" collages
You know them. Everyday hyper-realism of sculptures by Romulo Keldran (R ó mulo Celdr á n)
Yes, you really know them. Moreover, every day you have to "communicate" - with some more and more often, with others less and less often, but nevertheless, they will not surprise you when you meet again. But be careful if the next meeting takes place at an exhibition of sculptures by the Spanish sculptor Romulo Celdran. Romulo is famous for his ability to create hyper-realistic sculptures, and his art project Macr is dedicated to them
