An international competition has been held in Japan for 10 years aquascaping, - the art of creating emotional, changing landscapes in the aquarium. To find out whose aquarium design is the best, and who is the most skilled landscape designer (aquascaper) in the underwater world, this event attracts mainly representatives of Asian countries every year: Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, China, Vietnam, Malaysia and Korea. But this time, in 10th Anniversary IAPLC Competition, for the first time the victory went not to an Asian, but to a Russian aquascaper Pavel Bautin … The pioneer and recognized guru of aquascaping is considered to be a Japanese portrait painter Takashi Amano … His style is a Nature style aquarium design. This is the topic that its participants represent at IAPLC competitions, and Takashi Amano is the main and strictest judge of the competition.

So what do we see in the photographs? Forests, valleys, ravines, rocky canyons, giant roots of trees that have fallen, probably from a strong hurricane? Huge boulders overgrown with moss and other landscapes, donated by the artisan nature? All this is the work of talented aquascapers, and the best this year was the Russian aquascaper, Pavel Bautin, who turned his aquarium into a real forest thicket, in which, however, lost "travelers" feel like fish in water. Below is a photo of the aquarium design submitted by him for the competition.

However, this year Pavel's victory is not the only European "medal" for aquascaping. The Ukrainian master Grigory Polishchuk also received high praise from recognized landscape designers of the underwater world, who received a "bronze" for his design of the aquarium landscape. All the rest of the prizes and awards "floated" to Taiwan, China, Japan and Korea - which is typical for this competition.

This year, the next IAPLC 2011 aquascaping competition will take place, and the event website already has a registration form for participants. Who knows which of "our" aquascapers was inspired by the victory of Paul and Gregory? By the way, you can admire the work of the winners of previous years on the IAPLC website.
