Russian photographer Pavel Volkov made a photo project about the Belarusian Paralympian Alexei Talai, a member of the Belarusian national swimming team. This guy also has a black belt in taekwondo. He took photographs, showed them to the world and became the winner of the international documentary photography competition Istanbul Photo Awards in the nomination "Sports Story".
Pavel Volkov is a photographer who creates documentary projects. Its main topics are subculture, the army and the Paralympians. According to Pavel Volkov, the topic of Paralympic sports fascinates him especially. He is actively looking for heroes, gets to know them and each time their stories amaze him to the core. One of these heroes, to whom Pavel Volkov drew attention, was Alexey Talai.
When a guy from the Belarusian town of Orsha was 16 years old, on the eve of Victory Day he was blown up on the world, which had been lying in the ground since the war. Alexey Talai survived, then he was left without legs and arms. To survive and not to lose himself, he was helped by the help of relatives, friends and, of course, fortitude.
Today he is 35. He is a successful businessman, family man, father of four children, master of sports in swimming, philanthropist, traveler and convinced optimist who, as an example, inspires thousands of people.
When Pavel Volkov received permission to shoot, he went to Orsha, where he was greeted with great joy - Alexey in a wheelchair, accompanied by his sons. For a long time he photographed Alexei with his wife and children against the backdrop of nature, forests, old Belarusian villages. And of course, in the gym and in the pool.
In society, people with physical problems are often referred to as people with disabilities, but in reality they are people with unlimited potential. And confirmation of this the story of how a cripple from the Urals became a Viennese bourgeois.
