Portraits in the past performed the same functions that are now assigned to photographs. That's why the Austrian artist Dorothee Golz and decided to combine these two types of visual arts, creating a series collagesin which she combined heads from the classic paintings of the great masters of the past with modern bodies.
"Girl with a Pearl Earring" is one of the most famous paintings in the world. She repeatedly became the basis for the creation of other works, for example, it was reincarnated into a Barbie doll, was created from pieces of scotch tape or even in the form of a spiral.
But the artist from Vienna Dorothy Goltz gave this girl a completely modern body, while leaving the head, drawn by Jan Vermeer.
However, "Girl with a Pearl Earring" is just one of such works by the Austrian artist. She took many classic portraits by such authors as Dürer, Holbein and other masters of the Renaissance, mainly Dutch, adding painted heads from them to bodies in modern photographs.
Thus, Dorothy Goltz is trying to modernize the works of centuries ago, to show what place the people depicted on them would occupy in our time, what subcultures they would belong to, what clothes they would wear.
The work of Dorothy Goltz very clearly demonstrates that classical painting is quite relevant in modern times, that the surroundings and clothes can change, but people remain the same, and the artist's genius manifests itself through the centuries - he is not threatened with obsolescence.
